Unless you are living under a rock, it is likely that you have been or will be affected by the upcoming Presidential election. With the economy steadily declining, more and more Americans are looking to the next President to help pull our country out of this recession.
Job seekers, who have likely been hardest hit by the financial crisis, have decided that it is time for a change of office. A recent poll conducted by Beyond.com of more than 38,000 job seekers found that 53% plan to vote for Senator Barack Obama in the upcoming election. In fact, the race isn’t even close with only 33% voting for Senator John McCain, 8% undecided and 6% not voting at all.

If you haven't heard that we are either in a recession, or that we are entering a recession, then you need to find a new newspaper to read. According to the Labor Department, the number of job losses for the year increased by 159,000 to more than 760,000 for the year and was the 9th month in a row with a net decrease in the number of jobs within the economy … BUT, this doesn't mean that people didn't find jobs and that employers didn't hire new employees. Don't get me wrong, these numbers aren't good; they are the worst we have seen in over 5 years. There are 9.4 million people that are currently out of work that are seeking a new job.

Well, never say never! Negotiating salary and benefits in the midst of an economic crisis is certainly going to be more difficult, although not impossible. Many employers are going to be less willing to increase their budget for salary and benefits in a time when their company may be suffering as a result of the economy, but there are still some exceptions to this rule.

The best questions a candidate can ask during an interview should demonstrate to the employer that they are eager to learn more about the business and how thier new role will impact the bottom line of the company. Employers appreciate candidates who take the time to prepare for an interview and have a basic understanding of the business and the trends impacting their industry.
