Healthcare & Medical jobs on the move, but which way?
Good news for those seeking a job in the Healtcare & Medical Industry: According to Beyond.com's Q1 2008 Industry Outlook Report, online job postings in this industry experienced the largest percentage gain over the previous quarter, with a 1.86% increase across the Beyond.com Network.
In addition, The Department of Labor projects nurses and medical assistants as the fastest-growing career groups through 2014. With an average life expectancy on the rise, jobs in the healthcare/medical industry are expected to remain strong, regardless of recessionary concerns and overall U.S. economic conditions.
Although Healthcare is one of fastest-growing industries for jobs, we are seeing a slightly different trend for the number of candidates looking for jobs in the Healthcare industry. In Q1 2008, Healthcare & Medical had one of the largest percentage decreases in resumes posted over the previous quarter and year. Postings decreased -1.66% over the quarter and -5.24% over the year. The decrease in resume postings for healthcare and medical continues to reflect the ongoing shortage of healthcare professionals to meet increasing demands across public and private sectors.
The fact that the healthcare and medical industry continues on the upward demand slope with reference to employment needs, is precisely why your industry is seeing such a large percentage decline in resume postings. Job seekers have a much larger employment market to choose from, and these jobs are not as competitive as they were 2 years ago and beyond. Many people jumped on the healthcare industry "bandwagon" due to so much publicity about "the nursing shortage," " increasing life expectancy", etc... Now that these needs are a reality in our economy, a job seeker has a very easy time picking and choosing - they are in high demand - they might not feel that the services of a professional employment agency are needed.
Unfortunately I can also tell you that the desperation to fill available positions has led to the industry hiring in quantity, not necessarily because of quality... Healthcare is a 24 hour/7 day a week business.
